Flaying or skinning is a punishment before death. Treating the victim like an animal. The victim would usually be hung upside down, or crucified, limbs fixed into position by rope or metal bands. Then incisions would be made around the neck & arms. A knife was used to slowly cut under the skin, then be pulled away from the body causing unbearable pain as nerve endings are torn away from the flesh.

When the knife reached the stomach area, the stomach structure would be exposed and the intestines would fall out….causing even greater agony.
